MEANY WINS POSITIVE POP SONG CONTEST
[Nashville, TN] The Positive Pop Song Contest recently named Rob Meany of the band Terramara as the grand prize winner for their first songwriting competition. Meany, from Minnesota, won with a simple piano and vocal recording of his song “Outrunning Headlights”. “We were judging simply on excellent writing in all aspects, lyrics, melody, and overall song craft, and this song is great on all levels,” says Ellen Tift of Worldwide Groove Corporation, the song contest’s main sponsor. “We were pleased with the number of great songs that were submitted, and called on a large number of music industry judges help choose our grand prize winner.”
Meany will plan to make a trip to Nashville in the future to work with Worldwide Groove Corporation, a music production duo, and take advantage of the studio time and other services provided in the grand prize. “I'm honored and honestly stunned to the receive the grand prize...” says Meany. “In a business where it can be hard to get noticed, this is a huge lift for me... I'm hoping I can use this as a stepping stone to further my career in songwriting.”
The contest also gave a special singer/songwriter award to Ryan Thies and Danny Tran of the Nashville based band Everyday Atlas for their song “Somewhere”. This special award involves a live performance opportunity and was sponsored and chosen by The Breen Agency, an artist booking agency in Nashville. “...It’s always a pleasant surprise when a song makes its way to my desk that could find a place on radio that very day...” says David Breen, owner. “When I heard the songs that Ryan & Danny presented to the Positive Pop Song Contest I immediately felt that way.” The top 15 songs of the contest will be digitally released in a “Positive Pop Song Contest Winners” compilation CD by Fabulation Records. Songwriters or bands chosen for this compilation include: The Joys [Canada], Cassandra Kubinski [NY], John Watilo [TX], Sarah Peacock [Nashville], Cooper [Nashville], Lucas Parry [Nashville] and Redd Soul [CA]. Impressively, four different songwriters, or teams, managed to place two songs each on this compilation: Jen Foster, Ryan Thies & Danny Tran, and Justin Thompson are all from Nashville, and grand prize winner Rob Meany [MN].
Pop Rocks Candy was the most unusual sponsor of the song contest, tying in to the name “Positive Pop” and “upping the fun factor” according to Tift. Other sponsors include: TAXI.com, CdBaby.com, Guitar Center, EMI Music Publishing, Gospel Music Association, Positive Rhythms internet radio, NextHitWriters.com, and Playlikeapro.com. A collection of Nashville music industry businesses joined Worldwide Groove Corporation on the sponsor list: Sound Kitchen, Platinum Lab Recording, Venus Mastering, Kenyon Artist Development, and Yackland Studio.
